How to make the /l/ and /r/ sounds:
These two sounds are murder for people who don't have the /l/ sound in their language. If you have the /l/ sound, the /r/ is simple. Just put your mouth into the form for /l/, then retract the tongue so that the tip of your tongue touch anything.
If you don't have the /l/ sound, read on.
For the /l/ in lace, the tip of the tongue touches the back of the top teeth. Just the tip of the tongue, no other part. It's a voiced sound, which means your vocal cords are vibrating.
For the /r/ race, also voiced, the tongue pulls back in the mouth. The tip of the tongue does NOT touch the top of the mouth or anything else. The sides of the tongue touch the sides of the teeth. Your tongue forms a bowl shape and only the sides of the tongue touches anything. The rest of the tongue touches nothing at all.

Practice Reading:
Ron was driving his yellow lorry in the wrong direction. He had a load of lace that he needed to deliver to Alder Lane to Mrs. Ronald's store, Fine Lace, but he couldn't find it. He raced up one road and another, but he was always wrong. He prayed that he wouldn't arrive late--her store was closing in half an hour. Finally he found a little lane to the right of a red lorry with a hidden sign that said Alder Lane. He flew up the lane and arrived without a minute to spare. Mrs. Ronald was graciously waiting to collect her load of lace. She was kind enough to give him a glass of lemonade before he left to deliver his next load.
